Grading Policy
Students
grades are based on a running total of the points earned divided by the Total
possible points.
Class is broken into three categories:
Assignments
Quiz’s
Test’s
Assignments:
There are roughly 18 to 22 assignments during a 9-week period. Most assignments
are worth 8 pts. Larger assignments can be worth 12, 16 or even 24 points.
Assignments
are based on effort and completion. Whether or not they are right or wrong has
no baring on how much credit they will receive. Assignments not complete will
be given a grade less than the total assigned. Since students are provided with
the problems and answers they are expected to show how they arrived at their
solution. Not showing their procedure will also result in a reduction of
points. Late assignments are accepted but will result in not more than half
credit.
Students
will be allowed to use any previous notes ,assignments, Quizzes or tests that
they have written to help them on the quiz or test. (This is true for a
majority of all exams we take even the Final Exam)
Quizzes:
Are worth 20 points. Quizzes are
usually given on Wednesdays or Thursday’s. There will be 4 to 5 quizzes per a
nine weeks. Students will take each Quiz twice. They are to be given
approximately one week apart. The problems will have different numbers but will
be the same style. Students will be given the best grade they receive for that
quiz regardless of whether it was the first or second quiz they scored it on.
Quizzes will encompass any material we have covered in class and generally
spread over 4 different topics. Because every Quiz is given twice there are to
be no make-ups. If a student misses a quiz the grade they receive for that quiz
will be based on the grade they made the other time they took the quiz. If they
missed the first quiz then they are more than welcome to get a blank copy of it
to help them study for the next quiz.
Quiz
grading is as follows.
1
out 4 will receive a 65% or 13 out of 20
2
out 4 will receive a 75% or 15 out of 20
3
out 4 will receive an 85% or 17 out of 20
4
out 4 will receive a 100% or 20 out of 20
Problems
will be graded either all correct or all wrong. There is no partial credit on
quizzes.
Test:
Are worth 40 points. They are to be given usually on Fridays. There will be 4
to 5 tests given per a 9 weeks. The same policy applies for test as used for
quizzes. With the following exceptions, Tests are objective specific and do not
encompass many different topics. They are primarily over the material we are
covering prior to the Test. They will
also be able to receive partial credit for problems that are semi-correct.
