MEMORANDA
TO: All Lakeland Senior High
School JROTC Cadets in LET 1, 2, 3, 4
MEMORANDA
FROM: MAJ McCoy, Senior Army
Instructor
SUBJECT: JROTC Classroom Policy
& Procedures – Syllabus
- The
following JROTC Classroom rules are applicable to all cadets participating
in the
LAKELAND SENIOR High School JROTC program.
·
I will remain quiet after the tardy bell rings, so that the
roll may be taken and information for the day’s activities may be read.
·
I will respect other cadet’s property, opinion and person as
I wish to be respected. Profanity,
personal insults and the touching of other cadets’ person or property is not
permitted.
·
I will bring notepaper and pen/pencil to class and will
clean my area before departing.
·
I will read the JROTC bulleting board daily and will wear my
uniform as required by the training schedule.
·
I will be in my classroom when the bill rings. If late, I will explain to the instructor.
·
I will raise my hand to be recognized by the instructor.
·
I will use departmental equipment only for JROTC business
when directed by the instructor.
·
I will personally reschedule missed instruction/exams within
three days of returning from an excused absence with my instructor.
Failure
to comply will result in instructor to parent contact or other measures IAW the
LAKELAND SENIOR High School Discipline Plan.
- Make-up
Policy: The SAI and AI are
available after school Tuesday and Wednesday each week for you to do
make-up work, if you have an excused absence during the preceding
week. You must schedule a time
with your instructor, within the first three days, to complete any test or
quizzes missed during the absence.
Any workbook assignments received before your absence are due the
day of your return, or three days after your return if you did not receive
the instructions before your absence.
- Grade
Determination: IAW LAKELAND SENIOR
JROTC Standard Operating Procedures participation (includes JROTC attitude
and participation in activities in and out of the classroom), test results
(minimum one test per each nine weeks), uniform/inspection evaluation
(each Tuesday, the assigned day for inspection). Failure to wear the uniform on designated uniform days
(Tuesdays) will result in a zero grade.
Uniform days cannot be made up.
If absent, the grade of zero still applies. Numerous opportunities to make-up the
zero are provided in unlimited participation activities. All referrals to the office for
misconduct will result in a zero grade under the
participation category. The
grading scale used by Lakeland Senior High School applies.
- Student
Business Plan: All “school business”,
i.e., admit slips, eligibility cards, or other papers, requiring an
instructor’s signature will be placed on the podium prior to the ringing
of the tardy bell. The forms will
be returned to you during the class.
Absence admits must be presented at the beginning of class on the
day of your return.
- Instruction
will come primarily from provided LET manuals, workbooks, and
lectures. These items do not
require any purchase by the student.
It is imperative that all cadets respect and not damage the items
provided by JROTC. Other
instruction is provided by the experience of both instructors as retired
military personnel. Occasionally,
guest speakers will provide valuable information to enhance the learning
experience.
- Remember,
JROTC is an elective course at Lakeland High School. Therefore, it is not required to take
JROTC and to that end, we are evaluating our students daily. Attitude, attendance, and just “playing
the game” do wonders in meeting the mission assigned to all JROTC
programs. Simply put, “to
motivate young people to be better citizens.” If JROTC instructors find a student who
will not/can not adapt, then disenrollment procedures from JROTC will
begin by notifying appropriate authorities within Lakeland High School.
- Lakeland
High School JROTC is a very well respected program and is called upon to
perform many responsibilities. It
is known throughout LHS and the City of Lakeland that the Army JROTC
program can easily meet and even exceed any requirements assigned. Students participating in JROTC learn
very quickly that high standards, discipline and a strong work ethic are
essential to progress and excel in JROTC.
The “beauty” of JROTC is we are very adept in helping the student
quickly grasp these life-enhancing concepts. JROTC at Lakeland High School is definitely “second to
none.”
